Slow Cooker Ham and Bean Soup

  • 1 pound dried great Northern beans, rinsed and soaked overnight
  • ½ pound cooked ham, chopped
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • chopped parsley
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • water to cover
  1. Drain and rinse the soaked beans.
  2. Combine the beans, ham, brown sugar, onion, garlic, black pepper, and cayenne pepper in a slow cooker.
  3. Pour enough water into the slow cooker to cover the mixture by about 2 inches.
  4. Set slow cooker to low
  5. Simmer 6-12 hours, stirring occasionally.
