Barnyard Jam

Preparation

paper lunch bag, one for each student.

1. Divide students into 6-8 barnyard groups, with 3 or 4 students in each group.
2. Teach the following rhythms, and write them on the chalkboard: (/ = quarter note; > = eighth note)
   • / / / /
   • / / >>/
   • / rest rest /
   • >>>>>>>>
   • (count 1,2,3,4 as hands go up and down shaking)
   • / >> / >>
   • >> rest >> rest
3. Lead the students in making music (not noise) as a class to the different rhythms.
4. Have them use the lunch bags or make animal noises in time to the rhythm.
