Plant, Eat, and Draw Your Food!

This project will allow students to gain an understanding of agriculture through activities that lead them from preparing soil for planting all the way to harvesting and eating what they have grown. To round out the project, students will express their learning in artistic activities that showcase what they have learned about agriculture. $500

Jeanie Spears-Gore
(Gore) Pirates Love Pigs

My project is to add a station about pigs to our Elementary Ag Day to inform students about the importance of pigs. We will share facts with Pre-K through 5th grade students including the accurate names of different pigs, what pigs eat, different breeds of pigs, and what products are produced from pigs or pig byproducts. By purchasing nonfiction books about pigs that can be read in each classroom the week before our Ag Day to share facts about pigs with them. Then by also purchasing fiction books about pigs will help so that students will want to pick out books that have pigs as characters to read about after learning about pigs. $500

Kimberly Schooler -Norman-Truman Elementary
Learning High On The Hog!

Students will be Learning High on the Hog with these interactive lessons that integrate learning about the pig industry to their daily lives and other curriculum learning. My elementary school is in an urban/suburban area and most students as well as their families have little to no understanding of what agriculture is or how it impacts their daily lives. Through this unit students will develop an understanding of the pork industry, by-products of pork, and the importance of our piggy friends while utilizing science, social studies, math, and reading skills. Students will be as eager and happy as a pig rolling in the mud to learn about the link between themselves and pig agriculture.

Chick Embryo Project-Mayes County OSU Extension

I have recently transferred from Tulsa to Mayes County. After visiting with elementary teachers at several local schools I realized there is a need for a chick embryo program. Many students do not understand where their food comes from and how important agriculture is to their everyday lives. I plan to use the Ag in the Classroom lesson "Hatching Science with Classroom Chicks" to introduce students to the life cycle of a baby chick, and how poultry is an important food source. I plan to do this by providing the classroom with an incubator and 12 fertilized eggs. Through this program, students will be introduced to the importance of agriculture from the security and convivence of their classroom $500
